Conceived by Abin Design Studio in collaboration with Signature Estates and Izumi, The Meridian is a contemplative dining installation that explores the relationship between materiality and sensory experience. Developed as part of Signature Estates’ curated series of immersive pop-up environments, the project draws from the principles of Japanese minimalism to create a spatial atmosphere rooted in balance.

The design rejects excess in favour of controlled proportions, tactile honesty and a carefully orchestrated interplay of light and shadow. Timber screens inspired by the traditional Yakisugi technique are finished in deep matte black, establishing a layered spatial depth while framing moments of intimacy within the dining environment. Rough Kadappa stone, textured surfaces, and integrated landscape elements introduce a grounded material palette that softens the architectural rigor of the space.

At the centre, a monolithic communal table crafted from locally sourced wood and embedded natural boulders acts simultaneously as furniture and sculpture. Suspended handcrafted lighting further reinforces the project’s construction-led approach. Built within an accelerated three-day timeline, The Meridian demonstrates how disciplined detailing and material restraint can transform a temporary installation into an immersive and enduring spatial experience.
